To response for Nargis Cyclone relief work in May 2008, “Chiang Mai Friends for Nargis Recovery” was established by collaboration of various organizations and individuals from different backgrounds. Later on, with the aim of building up better understanding among Thai and peoples from Burma living in Thailand as well as better collaboration among Thai organizations and organizations work on Burma issues in Chiang Mai and Northern Thailand, “Friends of Burma” was established in April, 2009. In order to create a public space to learn more about Burma in different aspects which are socio-economic, politic, environment and human rights that affect to every ethnic groups in Burma. “Friends of Burma” also continue working on fund raising for relief to refugee along Thai-Burma border and IDPs inside Burma including Nargis affected communities. The relief will be sent through networks and organizations working in the effected areas.

Fund raising activities in 2008-2009

-          Fund raising at Sunday Market and public forums in 2008, all donations for Nargis affected people

-          Selling second hand clothes at Chiang Mai Art and Cultural Festival, 64 Years Aung Saan Suu Kyi, Seminar on situations along Thai- Burma border, all benefits for Karen refugee along the border
